International build a range of trucks which include the word ‘star’ in their names - Paystar, Fleetstar, Cargostar and Transtar. This conventional is a Transtar 4300 and is fitted with a sleeper cab.

Truck manufacturer International was part of a major agricultural engineering group that was split up in the Eighties.

In 1986 it became Navistar International although its products are still known as Internationals. The American-made International 9370 is a 6x4 conventional available with a range of proprietary engine and transmission options such as Detroit diesel engines.

  Bulldog is the nickname earned by Mack trucks which is one of the oldest American truck makers. Seen here (above) are a row of bonneted U607T models, the cabs of which are made of fibreglass.   This White is a 9000 Series 6x4 articulated tractor and is used for pulling a tanker trailer. It has a 90,000 lb gross combined weight which includes both tractor and trailer. White 9000 Truck (1967) White This famous American truck manufacturer was acquired by Swedish Volvo in 1981 after going into liquidation. The company still manufactures trucks as Whites at plants in Utah and Virginia using a high percentage of American proprietary components. One such is the High Cabover which is assembled with a Cummins 300 bhp diesel engine, a Fuller nine-speed gearbox and Rockwell axles. The White Conventional is a similar combination of components albeit in a bonneted cab design and with a thirteen speed transmission. Peterbilt 353, 349, 362 Trucks Pictures

  Peterbilt produced the 353 models in the early Eighties as both 6x4 and 6x6 rigids for tough conditions. They have steel and aluminium cabs. The body fitted to this one, photographed in California, is for loose loads such as earth that can be dumped from the hydraulically lifted load bed. 1986 Peterbilt 349 Water Truck Peterbilt While this company is now part of the Paccar group, it still produces vehicles badged as Peterbilt trucks. One such is the Peterbilt 349 , a heavy duty truck for on and off highway use. It is supplied as a three axle chassis cab with a range of optional engines and is designed so that the operator can install a rear body to turn it into a transit mixer, a salt tipper or snow plough all can be fitted.
